I recently got a Uhut Better Shed for my garden, and so far, it’s been a solid investment for Edinburgh weather. I went for a timber build with a skylight, and it feels more like a proper room than just a storage.
What I liked most was the custom options. They let me tweak the roof design and add extra locks without fuss. The delivery crew showed up on time and had it up in a single day, even with the drizzle.
Price-wise, it sat nicely between a cheap plastic shed and a posh summerhouse. The wood came pre-treated, the joints were sealed tight, and the lockable doors give me peace of mind against rain and random prowlers.
If I had to nitpick, they don’t really cater to those wanting a simple metal or plastic shed. Also, I noticed their lead times can drag a bit when orders pile up.

I noticed how my next-door neighbour kept tripping on various tools scattered in his backyard, so I offered to help him pick a new shed. We ended up going with Greenhouse People, where he had a pick of wood, metal, and plastic sheds.
He went with the classic timber look and was delighted with the custom options. They managed to sort him a wider door and extra shelving to fit his oddly-shaped garden corner. The installation team showed up on time and had everything up in half a day!
Price-wise, my neighbour felt it was fair. The base cost was reasonable, and extras like tougher locks and weatherproof coating were clearly listed, with no hidden fees.
The shed itself was built solidly, with reinforced corners and a sturdy lock that keeps both rain and his hyperactive cats out. To add peace of mind, they even added a metal wall inside the timber frame.
The only hiccup was the wait; custom tweaks did stretch the lead time. Also, it might not be the best place to look for something super-fancy or architect-level bespoke.

Absolutely fantastic
I must say my experience with the Greenhouse people at Dobbies was absolutely fantastic. Both Scott & Pete are extremely knowledgeable/ helpful & very approachable. I knew I had the right place as soon as I arrived. Scott had taken the time to run me through ideas and sizes, which was great, as I was looking to use the greenhouse for various events. I helped my parents swap out their saggy old shed for one from Capital Sheds, and it’s been more solid than my dad’s waistcoat in winter. They opted for timber (the company’s speciality) over metal or plastic, and the sales team offered modest tweaks like a larger window and upgraded, heavier framing.
When the installers came, they handled everything from clearing the site to erecting the shed, which saved my folks the headache and back pain.
The pricing was straightforward: they quoted for delivery and installation (15% extra), and laid out options for thicker boards or heavier framing.
Durability hasn’t been an issue, so far: the shed uses 12 mm shiplap (or 15 mm in premium models), zinc-coated fittings, toughened glass windows, and felt roofing. It’s built to cope with dreich Edinburgh weather and my parents’ hoarding tendencies.
As a builder, I’m particularly impressed that they’ll upgrade to heavy framing (70 x 44mm) for exposed sites, which gives me added peace of mind on windy days.
However, their material options are narrower, so don’t expect them to do modern plastic or metal sheds, as they stick firmly with timber. Also, I noticed the standard cladding thickness is modest at best, so if your site is very exposed, you’ll almost certainly want to pay for upgrades.

I helped a home repair client pick out a shed from Forest Craft, and even on a damp Edinburgh afternoon, the entire process was smooth. Though they only offer custom timber sheds, there are plenty of options for sizes, roof types, windows, and doors.
The delivery team arrived on schedule, handled the base prep, and bolted the structure together in less than a day. I was relieved not to lift another tool for my client, while she was happy about the transparent pricing on both base options and itemised extras.
The shed my client got features toughened glass windows, a 20 kg green mineral felt roof (with optional EPDM upgrade), and a lockable door built into the standard spec…so yeah, it was a durable pick.
Forest Craft let her choose the roof pitch, door/window placement, and internal layout to adapt it to her narrow garden access, too.
However, their material focus is almost entirely timber, so if you were hoping for a metal or plastic shed option, you might need a specialist elsewhere. Also, customisation might not be a good idea for quick fixes, as non-standard dimensions can stretch lead times.

I decided to upgrade my workshop shed with a Meadowmill Shed Centre unit, and so far, it’s been a sturdy decision. There’s a variety of sizes in their timber shed catalogue, along with roof shapes and window/door placement tweaks to suit my space.
The delivery team helped me dismantle the old rotted structure, lay a proper base, and assemble the new shed before the sun even had time to set. I love how they offered a full-service umbrella, along with refreshingly transparent pricing.
Their builds use Scandinavian pine, pressure treatment, and well-fitted joinery I admired up close. The door came with a solid mortice lock and weatherproof seals that seem trustworthy against rain and drafts.
More features I like with this supplier: they emphasise PEFC/FSC timber sourcing, and honestly, that 3-in-1 service (shed removal, base construction, and installation) is a rare convenience in the market.
If I had any issue, it would be that if I pushed too far into bespoke or heavily reinforced specs, lead times can creep up, and costs can climb steeply. I learned to hold my peace to avoid those.
