We found the 5 best parking options in Edinburgh to save you the struggle!
I was late for a meeting near Waverley Station and ended up circling the block like a confused pigeon. Every time I got close, the “available” spaces disappeared, and I almost gave up entirely.
Finding parking is tricky. Tight roads, surprise fees, and limited spots can turn errands or city trips into a mini adventure you didn’t ask for.
To help, I’ve rounded up the best parking options in Edinburgh. These locations are easy to access, secure, and practical, so you can skip the stress.
How much does parking cost in Edinburgh?
Parking in Edinburgh costs between £1.50 and £5 per hour, depending on the location. Daily rates for city centre car parks typically range from £10 to £25, while long-term or overnight parking can cost £30 to £50 per day.
1. St. James Quarter Car Park

Address: St James’ Pl, Edinburgh EH1 3BP
Phone: +44 131 290 1118
Business hours: Monday to Sunday: Open 24 hours
St. James Quarter Car Park offers about 1,600 spaces across three levels, so finding a spot here is usually much easier than at other busy city-centre car parks.
I parked here when I visited the Edinburgh Playhouse for a show. Getting from the car to the theatre was actually quick and straightforward. I felt safe walking through the well-lit, clearly marked pathways.
There are security cameras and staff regularly walking around, which made me feel comfortable. I’d say it feels safe even in the evenings.
If you drive an electric car, you can check for available charging stations using the app. The stations are also easy to spot when you arrive.
There are also around 70 disabled or Blue Badge spaces, plus family parking close to the entrances. I find this really helpful, especially for those who need extra accessibility.
What I really like is that the parking is just a short walk away from shops, restaurants, and entertainment, so I don’t have to worry about transfers.
The 2.1 m height limit is the only restriction here. Taller vans of vehicles with roof boxes simply won’t fit.
Friendly and reliable parking attendants
“Always a pleasure when visiting family in Edinburgh to be able to park in the St James Quarter knowing that my car is being securely looked after by Karen and David. The pair of them are the most friendly people you will ever meet when parking your car and takes the stress of leaving your car whilst you go out for the evening. Thank you both for making my day”

Clean, well-lit parking with helpful staff
“Great service, clean and well lit space. Really friendly and helpful team who are in attendance 24/7 and can be reached immediately by pressing the phone symbol on the entry machine. Thanks to Samantha for sorting my ticketing challenge!”

2. Q-Park OMNi

Address: Greenside Row
Phone: +44 113 238 4200
Business hours: Monday to Sunday: Open 24 hours
Q-Park OMNi is a convenient option for anyone needing central Edinburgh parking.
The car park sits beneath the OMNI centre and Edinburgh Playhouse, putting you just a few minutes walk from spots like Edinburgh Waverley Station and the Royal Mile.
I always park here whenever I meet my friends for lunch nearby. I like how easy it was to navigate from the car to the street level. The lifts were quick, and the signage made it clear which exit to take, so there was no wandering around.
The facility feels secure, too. It’s worth mentioning that they received a Park Mark Plus award, which is proof that they meet strict standards for lighting, signage, and surveillance.
I noticed security cameras and clearly marked help points, which made me feel comfortable even later in the evening.
One thing I appreciated is the 24/7 access. While most city parks are open around the clock, I noticed that here, there are usually spaces available even late at night. It takes the stress out of last-minute parking.
That said, there are only 9 disabled spaces out of around 1,000, so availability might be tight for Blue Badge holders.
Convenient parking with attentive staff
“Fantastic location, super easy to access! Sunday morning we had a flat battery on our vehicle and our parking host Townsley went above and beyond to get us sorted and on our way! We can’t thank him enough for all his efforts!”
- Grace Carvell, Google Review
Well-maintained and convenient parking
“A very tidy, well kept parking area. Close to Calton Hill. We didn’t get a ticket on entry as the machine had a wee problem. An absolute gentleman called David (Jack) sorted us out and showed us to the lift to find our car. It was probably the best car parking experience in my 59 years. You find gems when you are not even looking. Thank you David from the Avoch Jacks. You are a superstar.”

3. Edinburgh Central Travelodge Car Park

Address: 33 St Mary’s St
Phone: +44 344 332 1236
Business hours: Monday to Sunday: Open 24 hours
Edinburgh Central Travelodge is one of the cheapest parking spots I’ve come across.
The last time I went, their rates were around £2 for an hour and £8 for five. For the security and accessibility you’re getting, I’d say that’s more than fair.
The space is small but well-maintained. I like that it’s only a short walk from the Royal Mile, the Old Town (check out this guide if you’re in the area), and Edinburgh Castle.
I parked here during a quick day trip when I was in a bit of a rush, and they managed to accommodate me right away. For me, it’s one of the most convenient spots in the heart of the city, since going back and forth isn’t a hassle. Everything is just a short walk away.
The location alone also makes it worth considering if you’re planning a short visit.
Though not as big as other park spaces, I’m impressed that they still managed to include wheelchair-accessible entrances and designated disabled spaces.
The only downside is the limited space. Parking is first-come, first-served, and the lot fills up quickly, especially on weekends.
Affordable parking, close to popular spots
“Great place to park even if is small and sometimes you can’t find a place but is very cheap and it is near a lot of nice places. £2 per hour or £4 for 3 hours.”
- Sorin Cojocaru, Google Review
Great-value parking
“The best deal near the Old Town. £2 for 1 hour, £8 for 5 hours. Need to enter from across 319 Cowgate (small archway) and pay at the machine at the back entrance to the Travelodge. Small and therefore may fill up quickly in high season; early May, on a Wednesday at 11:30am, there were still spots open.”

4. Holyrood Road Car Park

Address: 2 Viewcraig Gardens
Phone: +44 345 050 7080
Business hours: Monday to Sunday: Open 24 hours
Holyrood Road Car Park is a practical choice if you’re planning to explore central Edinburgh.
Its location is hard to beat, sitting close to Holyrood Palace, the Scottish Parliament, and the trails up Arthur’s Seat.
I parked here for a quick stop near the palace, and it was convenient to get from the car to the main attractions without any extra hassle.
The car park is open 24 hours, which is useful especially if you want to start sightseeing early.
You can also pre-book and pay through the app, which is very convenient. I noticed the app rates are lower than paying on the day, so I recommend booking ahead to save a bit and skip the hassle at the barrier.
To give you reassurance for safety, just know that Holyrood Road Car Park has been awarded the “People’s Parking Award” by NCP.
I just noticed that some spaces and ramps feel tight, so manoeuvring larger vehicles here requires patience.
Spacious
“Spacious carpark. Conveniently located, near the park, and 15-20 mins walking to city centre.”
- Lucas (ecu751), Google Review
Affordable and well-located parking
“Great park, close to everything. Very cheap only £1 per hour. We were there at 9:15 am and there were plenty of parks. When we got back to the car at just after midday it was full.”

5. Cramond Beach Car Park

Address: 2 Kirk Cramond, Cramond
Business hours: Monday to Sunday: Open 24 hours
Cramond Beach Car Park is the kind of spot that makes sense for anyone planning a relaxed seaside day without overthinking parking.
It’s free and open 24 hours, so you can visit early for a morning walk or stay late to catch the sunset over the Firth of Forth.
The location couldn’t be more convenient. It’s right next to the beach and promenade, so you can step straight onto the walking and cycling path along the beach.
I came here with my friends one weekend to just chill, do a little food trip, and unwind, and we stayed in the car until midnight. I loved that there are others also doing the same, so it doesn’t feel weird and isolated.
Even late at night, there are usually people around, which makes it feel safe.
It’s also pretty family-friendly and suitable for outdoor breaks, especially if you’re bringing kids or pets along. There are accessible parking bays too, which shows some thought of inclusivity.
That said, the surface isn’t paved and there aren’t clear markings, so it can look a bit messy on busy days, especially from Friday night through the weekend.
Spacious spot near the beach
“Large and spacious parking 🅿️ Popular among locals, dog owners 🐕 as well as motorhomers 🚐 Walking trails around 🐾 and a huge beach 🏖️ Waste bins onsite 🗑️ Quite a lot of noise from airplanes landing and taking off from the nearby airport 🛬🛫 Cellphone reception workable but quite slow 📱
Nice neighborhood. Enjoyed my stay 😊👍”
- Uki Bear, Google Review
Free and spacious beachside parking
“Great parking right next to the beach and really helpful that it’s free, there was lots of space despite it being a weekend and nice weather! Bins were also available on site to keep the beach clean.”
