The 5 Best Self-Storage Facilities in Edinburgh with Safe & Affordable Units!
I managed to get the best movers when I had to transfer flats several times over the past decades, but I still had a huge problem on my hands: clutter. I never realised how much stuff I had accumulated until it was staring back at me in huge boxes.
Cupboards couldn’t save me, so I went hunting for the best self-storage facilities in Edinburgh, ideally ones that won’t judge me for hoarding festival posters and mismatched chairs. Here are the ones where you can stash your stuff safely.
How much does self-storage cost in Edinburgh?
Self-storage prices in Edinburgh are roughly around £22 per week, or around £90 per month, for a 25 sq ft unit. For 50 sq ft or so, expect to pay £30 per week, or around £120 per month.
Of course, location, access hours, security, and special offers like student deals can push those numbers up or down.
1. Safestore Self Storage

Address: 30 Bankhead Dr, Sighthill
Phone: +441314581900
Business hours:
Monday to Saturday, 8 AM–6 PM
Sunday, 10 AM–4 PM
I admit to being too sentimental to ditch my boxes of ancient accounting textbooks and school documents. When I found Safestore, I was happy to see storage units ranging from 10 sq ft up to 500 sq ft…chef’s kiss for academic packrats like me.
Access is smooth, too: 7-day access by default, and secure corridors with 24-hour recorded CCTV and intruder alarms. They kept my mind at ease while I left my professorial backlog in their hands.
I picked a unit online with no deposit and didn’t find any hidden fee-trap. The entire booking process was painless, too; unlike others that required a song-and-dance regarding identification and other info.
On the security front, I appreciated being the sole key-holder. Plus, seeing loading bays and free trolleys made unloading my mountain of boxes far less dreadful.
That said, while units go up to very large sizes, the bigger spaces are rented fast, and I ended up with a slightly smaller unit than I hoped. So, while flexibility is good, an early booking can save you heartache.
Good price and great solutions
The staff (Gavin) were exceptionally helpful and attentive. My first time here, and I’ll be back. Good price and great solutions.

My mum placed me “officially” in charge of packing and storing our full archive of holiday ornaments because she thinks I have a magic storage portal somewhere. Disappointingly, I don’t teach at Hogwarts, but I got the next best thing to help me: Edinburgh Self Storage.
The unit sizes there range from small lockers to vanload-sized rooms, so I found one spacious enough for our tinsel empire. There’s a car park drop-off and trolleys provided, which made unloading the tree toppers and lights less of a mission.
I checked out the security measures and found them tight. There are digital access controls, and the monitored premises gave me confidence that nobody’s going to pilfer our inflatable Santa Claus anytime soon.
I liked that there are climate-controlled options for more sensitive documents and items, and a price-match guarantee. The latter pleased Mum, who felt reassured about storing delicate glass baubles long-term without paying a fortune.
If there’s an issue, it’s that some of the larger units are further from the loading bay, so pulling heavy boxes up flights of stairs will require more effort.
The staff were very helpful
Used this place during the university holidays to store my possessions. The staff were very helpful and would definitely recommend.

3. Len’s Self Storage Edinburgh

Address: 11 Bankhead Broadway, Sighthill

Business hours:
Monday to Friday, 8 AM–6 PM
Saturday, 8 AM–5 PM

When my car’s engine was on the fritz, I expected my storage experience with Len’s Self Storage to be a bit of a faff, especially with breakables like lamps and vases in tow. Thankfully, they offer van/driver service coordination, so I had one less problem for my move.
They have everything from small lockers to large units, from 25 sq ft up to 150 sq ft for all types of storage needs. Their 24/7 access meant I could drop off my stuff after work without having to wait for standard hours.
I like that climate-controlled units are available for sensitive gear like my old vinyl records and vintage lamp shades. The pricing is clearly listed, as well: £50/month for 25 sq ft, with solid security features like gated access, CCTV, and covered drop-off bays.
Do note that their online unit-size availability isn’t always up to date, so the size I was eyeing was gone by the time I called.
Also, while they do offer van/driver service coordination, driver availability may be limited and can incur extra cost if needed on short notice.
The storage units are pristine
From the first call to getting items into storage, Tim and the whole team couldn’t have been more helpful. We have a van and driver service too, which made the whole process very easy (many thanks to Ross!). The storage units are pristine, and the whole facility is so well run. A pleasure dealing with Len’s and I would have no hesitation recommending them to anyone.

4. Kangaroo Self Storage Edinburgh

Address: 2a Bankhead Dr
Phone: +441315107900
Business hours: Monday to Saturday, 9 AM–5 PM
A couple of my accounting students needed to offload term-time gear, and they told me all about Kangaroo Self Storage. I went to check it out because I needed space for my archive of boxes and odd equipment.
There were unit sizes the size of regular lockers, all the way to 150 sq ft (and beyond, if I recall correctly). Regular hours apply, though I learned 24-hour access can be arranged with the administrators.
The pricing is pretty student-friendly: around £12.63 a week for a 25 sq ft (just enough room for some sports gear and textbooks). There’s a lowest price guarantee, promising to beat a competitor by 10%.
Security is good, as well, with 24/7 CCTV, electronic access, alarms, and perimeter fencing. I like that customers hold their own padlock and key, too.
That said, true “24/7” access is only by arrangement, and fees may apply, so if you need spontaneous late-night drops, you’ll need to confirm ahead.
No pressure, great price and easily accessible
Fantastic experience from start to finish! Recently rented a 25 ft Kangaroo storage in Edinburgh while having home renovations carried out for 10 weeks. An easy process to request a quote online before confirming, size, cost and contract details. The team allow you to view the unit before security with a small £10 refundable deposit. No pressure, great price and easily accessible during opening hours 8-6 pm.

The level of service, professionalism and friendliness was truly exceptional
The level of service, professionalism and friendliness was truly exceptional – hand on heart. What has been more incredible is the personal touch of the staff (Fraser especially) in ensuring that you and your belongings are looked after and feel welcome. It is for this reason that I am overjoyed to write this review and thoroughly recommend Kangaroo at Edinburgh. Thank you!

5. Big Yellow Self Storage Edinburgh

Address: 2 Bankhead Ave, Sighthill

Business hours:
Monday to Friday, 8.30 AM–5.30 PM
Saturday, 9 AM–5.30 PM

I was helping my newly divorced sister haul out years of stuff, but she wasn’t ready to get rid of everything (yet). Good thing I discovered Big Yellow Self Storage, which offered units ranging from 50 sq ft right up to 1,050 sq ft at its Bankhead branch.
The bigger units are ideal for her wardrobe, books, and half-shed inventory. She also appreciated the extended hours with PIN-coded gates, as it meant she didn’t have to rush during her move-out day.
There’s good security via individual unit alarms, 24-hour externally monitored CCTV, and perimeter fencing. They frequently run introductory deals, so my sister got a decent rate while sorting her new chapter.
Climate-controlled units aren’t available at every size, but the facility is clean, purpose-built, and dry. It’s overall a good fit for storing boxes of sentimental items and winter coats without damp worries.
However, true 24-hour access isn’t guaranteed. The extended hours suggest you should check the exact times if you’re unloading late at night.
Reasonable prices; clean units; coded secure entry
Excellent team! Shout out to Tracy, Gill and Tim (covering from the Aberdeen store). Very friendly bunch who made the check-in experience a delight. Reasonable prices; clean units; coded secure entry; trolleys; large loading bay; sell dust sheets, sofa covers, boxes, and various other packaging items at a reasonable cost.
