The 5 Best Custom-Made Tailor Services in Edinburgh to Find Your Perfect Suit

  • Service Options: We checked if the tailor offers both made-to-measure and fully bespoke garments to suit different budgets. A good shop offers distinct choices to meet different customer needs.
  • Turnaround Time: We looked at how long it takes to complete a custom suit or dress. Some shops offer quick turnarounds, while traditional bespoke studios require several months to finish a piece.
  • Range of Specialisations: We verified if the studio handles diverse clothing types like wedding wear, women's tailoring, or casual pieces. Broad expertise means they can help a wider variety of clients.
  • Location and Access: We considered where the shops sit within the city and their operating hours. Easy access and clear schedules make the fitting process much less stressful for busy professionals.

Finding a tailor who actually makes your clothes fit your body, not just a size off a chart, is a total game-changer. If you need a sharp suit for work or a tux for a wedding, custom tailoring really makes all the difference.

The good news is, Edinburgh has some great options. The tailoring pros here can create hand-drawn patterns just for you, and some even have modern showrooms with convenient made-to-measure styles.

To help you pick the best, we’ve rounded up the tailors locals trust most. Check out the list below so you don’t miss out!

Customer Reviews

Simply cannot recomend Chris highly enough

Simply cannot recomend Chris highly enough. I wanted to get a tailor made suit for a long time, so my daughters wedding seemed the perfect excuse. The whole process and experience was a highlight of the wedding build up. I also got a suit for my (now) son in-law, and a tailored ghillie shirt for my son. We loved visiting the studio, talking through options, trying on the mock versions and then finally getting our bespoke suits and shirts. Chris is fantastic to deal with.

The whole experience was incredible and I was made to feel completely comfortable and myself

I met with Chris in March and got married in October. In that time we created a bespoke three piece suit with personalised embroidery that I could only have dreamed for.

The whole experience was incredible and I was made to feel completely comfortable and myself. Chris is fantastic at his job and was in contact with me whenever I needed anything, allowing me to know that I was in good hands!

Andrew Brooks Tailoring: The Benchmark of Bespoke Service

Andrew Brooks Tailoring: The Benchmark of Bespoke Service

Andrew Brooks Tailoring exemplifies what every client should expect from their tailor. The cornerstone of the experience is the truly exceptional service provided by Andrew Brooks himself. Complementing this is Mel, Andrew’s wife, who ensures that all consultations, meetings, and planning stages are executed with remarkable smoothness and ease.

I would recommend Andrew and Mel to anyone looking for superb bespoke tailoring

I have returned to his Studio a few times since to have other more casual pieces made, and the experience is always very enjoyable.

I would recommend Andrew and Mel to anyone looking for superb bespoke tailoring and an amazing range of fabrics.

Thank you to you both.

Stepping into Stewart Christie & Co Ltd feels like walking back to the early 1700s. They’ve served four generations of clients, including prominent family estates across Scotland.

You can choose from several tailoring options based on your timeline and budget. Their services include handmade bespoke tailoring and hand-cut made-to-measure pieces designed around your personal style.

One client we spoke with recently visited the shop to check out the fabric samples and said the staff clearly explained the measurement process.

What’s more, all bespoke orders are crafted in their onsite workshop by highly trained seamstresses.

However, traditional handwork means a fully bespoke order can take around 20 weeks to complete. This can be a drawback if you need an outfit quickly.

Additionally, they’re closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Pros

  • Roots trace back to the early 1700s
  • Handmade bespoke and made-to-measure pieces
  • Employs highly trained on-site seamstresses

Customer Reviews

Thank you so much to both of you 🙂

Dan was the perfect gentleman and Vixi a true lady in organising my bespoke suit during the height of Covid lockdown. I am a stickler for specific detail with my suits and they were incredibly patient and helpful. I really couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you so much to both of you 🙂

And they will custom fit, or design, any piece to your liking

Stewart Christie is, hands down, one of the finest tailor shops I’ve ever been too. Beautiful, one of a kind designs and quality fabrics (tweed, tartan and more). And they will custom fit, or design, any piece to your liking.

I can’t wear any of my pieces without getting compliments! It’s a wonderful problem to have.

Hours: Contact to schedule service

Tailor Design’s skilled team brings over 20 years of professional dressmaking experience to the table. They adjust garments to fit your unique body shape while improving overall comfort.

Beyond standard suits, they handle complex bridal alterations and delicate leather work. They can shorten hemlines or completely resize almost any type of formal garment.

Plus, you can bring in everyday clothes for quick reshaping or basic dry cleaning.

But know that this broad service range means they don’t focus purely on traditional suit tailoring. Their fast approach may also not fit customers looking for a highly detailed bespoke experience.

Still, they’re a convenient stop if you need a quick jacket fix before dropping by at a studio for passport pictures.

Pros

  • Team has over 20 years of dressmaking experience
  • Handles complex bridal alterations and leather work
  • Offers basic dry cleaning alongside repairs
  • Quickly resizes casual and formal garments

Cons

  • Doesn’t specialise purely in traditional tailoring
  • Fast approach; may deter buyers wanting slow bespoke work
