The 5 Best Flooring Services in Edinburgh for Every Home and Budget

  • Installation Standards and Craftsmanship: We assessed the team’s technical skills across complex layouts like herringbone, safety vinyl, and uneven tenement floorboards. Proper preparation and neat finishes lead to better workmanship.
  • Pricing and Transparency: Clear quotes protect homeowners from unexpected fees or hidden disposal charges halfway through the job. We looked for honest estimates that break down material supplies and labour costs.
  • Product Range and Sourcing: We prioritised providers with diverse collections covering wool carpets, real hardwoods, waterproof boards, and synthetic tiles. Access to premium brands ensures your surface can withstand foot traffic.
  • Customer Care and Reliability: Punctual visits, polite tradespeople, and tidy cleanups make home renovations far less stressful. We favoured teams that arrive on schedule, protect skirting boards, and clear out rubbish before they leave.

Upgrading the floors in the capital comes with some quirks: navigating old tenement flats with uneven timber boards and picking materials that can withstand Scotland’s damp weather.

Residential and commercial spaces demand hard-wearing surfaces to handle foot traffic. To give you a head start, we rounded up the best flooring services in Edinburgh that can turn an exhausting renovation into a smooth upgrade.

If you’re DIYing your renovation or an interior designer hunting for go-to shops, we’ve got you covered! It all comes down to finding tradesmen who understand your needs and budget, so read on!

Customer Reviews

Keith made the whole flooring job stress-free

Very happy with Keith and his team’s work. I needed flooring installed in two bedrooms and a bathroom prior to moving into my flat. Keith gave me a rough itemised quote, visited the flat to confirm what needed to be done, sent me the revised quote, confirmed the installation day, showed up on time and finished ahead of schedule. The work itself is great. Keith always communicated promptly and explained anything I had a question about. Would recommend this team and call them back if I need flooring installed in the future.

Great advice, excellent fitting and a tidy finish

Keith, done a small job for me laying a floor in a double bedroom in a very old tenement flat in Leith Edinburgh.

The prompt visit by Keith for the estimate & good advice on type of flooring was a stress free.

He has great customer care skills. Communication skills were good with times & dates for job.

Excellent floor laying skills very satisfied with finished flooring, room was tidy with no rubbish or dust left to clear up after work.

Keith was kind enough to offer to return & fit new skirting boards. As the old ones were needing replaced.

Address: 158 Morningside Rd

Contact: 0131 446 0300 / [email protected]

Hours: Monday-Saturday, 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Edinburgh Flooring Company takes on the whole job by pairing floor installations with licensed electrical work, joinery, and plumbing.

Their supplier list is a strong point too. They work with high-grade designer brands like Kahrs and Ted Todd, covering everything from parquet patterns to luxury vinyl planks.

On top of that, they fit underfloor heating beneath their engineered boards and offer restoration sanding for period timber that’s seen better days.

The five-year fitting warranty is a real reassurance, especially if you’re taking on a bigger home improvement project.

Just bear in mind they only install materials bought through their own showroom, so bargain planks sourced elsewhere won’t be an option.

It’s also worth noting that phone support only runs during standard showroom hours, which could be inconvenient if you’re working late.

Pros

  • Complete project management covering plumbing and joinery
  • Five-year installation warranty
  • Installs underfloor heating systems
  • Supplies high-grade brands

Cons

  • Only fits products purchased from their shop
  • Customer service lines close by late afternoon

Fantastic floors and a really smooth installation

Edinburgh Flooring have just installed new flooring throughout my flat and did a fantastic job. The team were professional and fast and having the flooring put in was really straightforward. I’m delighted with my floors, they look amazing. The colour of the wood is a perfect match for the colours of the rooms and furniture. Having the flooring in the entire flat was ideal for me. It all flows from room to room and makes even smaller spaces look bigger. I highly recommend Mark and his team. Delighted with my floors.

A meticulous herringbone floor with great attention to detail

Mark and his team of experienced flooring fitters have just done a wonderful job for us fitting forty square meters of herringbone flooring in our drawing room. Craig, Scott and Jamie were particularly meticulous when they were setting out the first few rows of herringbone and finishing around the edges of the room.

Style Flooring Ltd is on our list for meeting rigorous standards. They have their own in-house tradesmen accredited by the Contractor Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) and Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP).

Instead of outsourcing to casual contractors, their team works on small and large-scale projects, from private homes to massive hotels.

Their Portobello warehouse also holds substantial reserves of screeds, underlays, and laminates, which helps keep project schedules on track rather than stalling on material delays.

Another standout is their in-house edging workshop. It produces custom-bound stair runners and rugs with blind stitching, a nice touch for anyone after a more finished look.

On the downside, they’re closed on weekends, so weekday planning is essential. You’ll also need to book an appointment in advance if you want to tour the showroom.

Pros

  • Certified in-house craftsmen without subcontracting

  • Massive local warehouse

Friendly service and a flawless fitting job

Robin and the team were fantastic from start to finish. Very friendly and helpful people offering suggestions and good advice in the showroom when making selections.

The fitting service was fantastic, the team arrived on time, laid the flooring then left our home with no trace of being here. We are delighted with the overall service and friendliness. Happy to use again and recommend to others without hesitation.

Great choices, clear communication and quality flooring

From our first visit to the office to choose our flooring to the final details of installation, these guys were complete pros. We had them do hardwood floors downstairs, so neat and easy to clean; carpet upstairs, super soft and perfectly installed; linoleum in the bathrooms which, despite being the cheapest option, still looks and feels amazing; and the stair runner is genuinely our favourite thing in the whole house! Communications were clear and efficient, we were able to discuss and change our choices and timings as needed, and I think we paid a really reasonable price.

4. Floor Coverings International

Website:http://www.edinburgh-flooring.com/

Address: 1 Maurice Place

Contact: 0131 620 1728 / [email protected]

Hours: Monday-Friday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM | Saturday, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

At Floor Coverings International, owners Craig and Derek personally manage every installation from the initial survey to the final sign-off. This attention to detail is important for tight quality control and clear communication.

As for materials, they supply a whole lot. They have Saxony wools, Karndean vinyl tiles, and exotic walnut engineered boards suited for busy homes and HMO flats.

Where they really go the extra mile is service. For an additional cost, their Diamond Promise package covers all the heavy lifting, from moving furniture to rubbish disposal and a thorough vacuum once the job’s done.

Because of this, we find the team an ideal choice for busy property owners who’d rather not deal with the hassle.

The trade-off is that their engineered boards are restricted to floating installs, which limits flexibility for anyone wanting a different fitting method.

Pros

  • Owners supervise initial surveys to fitting
  • Full furniture moving and rubbish removal included
  • Supplies a vast selection of flooring materials
  • Thorough cleaning after every fitting

Cons

  • Engineered wood only installed via floating methods

Brilliant attention to detail in a tricky tenement flat

This is the third time we have used Floor Coverings International in various different properties.

Craig & Jamie fitted laminate flooring in our hallway this time.  The work was completed to an exceptional standard.  We live in a tenement flat, where no wall is straight and the attention to detail to make the floor fit perfectly in all the nooks and crannies is nothing short of brilliance!

Mary, in the shop and all of the fitters are really knowledgable and honest with suggestions on what will and won’t work for your property.

Brilliant service all round and very reasonable prices.

They made replacing my flooring so straightforward

I would highly recommend this Company.  They make replacing floorings so straightforward.  They assist in making suitable choices, they are prompt in all communication and they keep you up to date with everything.  They are professional and competent and I will certainly be using them again in the future.

Peter Young Flooring Ltd is a family-run staple on Morrison Street, serving local homeowners since 1999.

Their staff will bring sample swatches directly to your home for free measuring and design advice. Their in-house fitters also supply and install everything from premium vinyl and laminates to real timber planks.

The crew will even lift out worn underlay and shift heavy wardrobes for you at no extra charge, sparing you the strain.

Plus, they do custom dyed carpets in-house, which rounds things out nicely as an all-in-one flooring solution.

The main drawback is the one-year fitting guarantee, shorter than what some competitors offer. Weekend browsing is also limited, since the shop is closed on Sundays.

Efficient, meticulous work with a great end result

We used Peter Young to install LVT flooring in our flat. They all did a brilliant job. Paul was really knowledgeable and helped us go for the best option based on our needs. The guys arrived on time for fitting and finished the job earlier than originally planned. Very efficient and meticulous. We are very happy with the end result. Definitely recommend! Would and will use again in the future.

Great service from measuring up to installation

Excellent service from Peter Young Flooring. Home visit to measure up for a carpet and laminate flooring. Took up and disposed of old flooring and a great job with the new quality flooring. Looks fantastic and the shop and fitters highly recommended.
