At my family’s old home, we’ve always relied on Armstrong Gardens when our little patch needs mowing (and some professional vision). They cover the basics like lawn care, pruning, and weeding, but also offer full-blown garden design for a total transformation.
Their pricing leans on the premium side (concept plans start at around £500), but my elderly parents don’t seem to mind if it means having a beautiful garden year-round. It’s great that they can opt for regular maintenance or choose one-off design projects for special occasions.
I also appreciate the company’s unique extras, such as UrbanPods (bespoke, modern garden rooms) for when I need some privacy. Armstrong also offers specialist landscaping that smaller firms don’t touch.
The downside is, their services are best suited for bigger budgets (not mine, but my parents, in this case!), so not ideal if you just want a simple garden tidy-up. They’re also in high demand, which can lead to longer waits to secure a slot.

They handle the usual lawn care, pruning, and weeding, but also offer full garden design and hard landscaping. You can book them for regular year-round visits or one-off tidy-ups, depending on your needs.
The team uses an eco-friendly approach, both in careful waste disposal (I was watching from my window!) and in the use of organic treatments. I like that they also cover extras like pressure washing, snow clearing, and those living walls I’ve been coveting for years.
However, complex projects can stretch out careful budgets compared to small, local gardeners. The company’s popularity means it could get harder to book them during spring and summer.

My snobby sister swears by Bernie Reddington Gardens and won’t stop showing off her borders to visitors. This is all due to Bernie handling lawn care, pruning, weeding, and even fresh planting schemes with a plantswoman’s touch.
Surprisingly, pricing is fair even for bespoke garden work, and my sister can choose between seasonal visits or one-off garden rescues. Bernie also offers her coaching sessions, so she can boast about “learning” while her gardener does the heavy lifting.
Seriously, though, the eco-friendly side of this service is impressive. There’s the use of organic soil, thoughtful pruning methods, and sustainable planting choices (nothing too fancy or invasive). Even her overgrown beds came back to life without harsh shortcuts.
The downside is that Bernie focuses on specialist planting and coaching, so large landscaping or construction projects aren’t on the menu. Her work is also in high demand among homeowners, so expect to wait a bit for her services.

We got Bernie in to clean it up, reorganise existing plants, advise us on new planting, order and supervise delivery and placing of new plants, and generally get us sorted out. I have learnt loads from her about plants
Bernie has been restoring, nurturing and planting my garden for several years now. The work she had done, particularly prior to lockdown, meant we had a far more pleasant time in our back garden than we might have done. I have learnt loads from her about plants and their habitats. I have always found her responsive to my ideas, but also willing to steer me gently towards better solutions as well!
