Keep your furry friends safe with the best pet sitters in Edinburgh!

Experience - We chose pet sitters who have at least three years of experience.

Certifications and training - We also prefer those with certifications like pet first aid training and a Level 3 Diploma in Feline Care and Behaviour to ensure your pets receive the best possible care.

Availability - We looked at whether these pet sitters can provide their services to most neighbourhoods in Edinburgh. We also considered whether they’re available on most days of the week.

Professionalism - We also assessed their punctuality, kindness toward pets, and responsiveness to enquiries.

Price fairness - We checked whether their prices are fair given their experience, certifications, availability, additional services, and discounts offered for multiple pets or long-term bookings.

I’d been buzzing for this holiday for ages, but as the days ticked down, I kept thinking about my cat, Skittles. He’s used to having me around, and the idea of him sitting there all confused while I was off having fun didn’t sit right with me.

So, I got a pet sitter. Best move ever. Skittles got his usual cuddles, playtime, and meals on time, and I got to fully relax. The sitter even sent me little updates and photos of him looking happy, so I actually enjoyed my trip.

You’ll probably want someone to look after your furry friend too while you’re away, so I went ahead and put together a list of the best pet sitters in Edinburgh to help you out.

How much does it cost to hire a pet sitter in Edinburgh?

Most pet sitters in Edinburgh will charge you around £19 per hour for their services. Take note that your price can vary depending on your preferred sitter and the type of service you require.

The fine folks who looked after Skittles while I was away were from The Feline Care Company. I chose them because they’ve been in business for more than a decade and are members of the National Association of Pet Sitters.

What really put my mind at ease was their GPS-tracked team. I could check exactly when they spent time with Skittles, even from another country. Their staff is also trained in pet first aid, something I hadn’t even considered but now see as a must-have.

It’s also good that they can take pets to veterinarian check-ups, so you don’t have to stress about missing an appointment.

Unfortunately, they only serve postcode areas EH3, EH4, EH5, EH6, EH7, EH9, EH10, EH11, and EH12. If you live in places like Old Town or New Town, you’ll likely need to find another option.

Pros

  • More than 10 years of experience
  • Member of the National Association of Pet Sitters
  • GPS-tracked team
  • Staff is trained in pet first aid
  • Can bring your pet to vet check-ups

Cons

  • Service area mostly limited to Edinburgh’s northwestern neighbourhoods
  • Charges double on holidays

The best cat sitters we have ever had

“Ffion has looked after our cat for a couple of years. The service is amazing and our cat has always been extremely well cared for. Nothing is too much trouble for Ffion. She is very knowledgeable about cats generally and knew when our cat required a vet visit while we were away, which she then arranged. The service reports are great for giving us peace of mind and it’s so easy to book online. I can’t recommend Ffion and her team highly enough, by far the best cat sitters we have ever had and we feel lucky to have finally found Animal Antics.”

Absolutely the best!

“Absolutely the best!! I was unsure about trusting someone to walk my dog but Ffi completely put my mind at rest with her professionalism and expertise. Completely reliable and always going above and beyond—for example staying longer with my dog when she was scared in a storm. 200% recommended !!!”

Christopher Bruce started My Cat Sitter in 2018 due to his immense love for cats. He’s got a Disclosure Scotland certificate, so you know he’s been background-checked and is someone you can trust with your pets.

The best thing about his service is how flexible it is. He’s available 24/7, even on holidays, which is a lifesaver if you travel a lot or need help at odd hours. As long as your home is near a Lothian bus route, he can likely reach you.

Another big plus is that he doesn’t charge extra for additional cats. If you’ve got a full house of whiskered residents, you won’t be paying more. Many sitters charge per pet, so this is a welcome change.

That said, Christopher runs everything solo, so he has a tendency to get fully booked quickly.

Pros

  • Almost 10 years of experience
  • Has a Disclosure Scotland certificate
  • Available 24/7
  • Doesn’t charge extra for additional cats

Cons

  • Solo pet sitter
  • Tends to get fully booked quickly

Our cat is clearly very happy in his company!

“Chris has looked after our cat a few times now and he’s been great. Sends lots of friendly updates and fantastic pictures while we’re away, our cat is clearly very happy in his company! He’s obviously a cat lover himself and spends time playing with our cat on his visits, which she loves! We would highly recommend Chris to anyone looking for a cat sitter.”

Chris is a friendly, trustworthy person who clearly loves his cats!

“Chris looked after my two cats over new year. He came in advance to go through their routines and meet them. My little female cat can be very shy however she took to him right away and I knew they would be fine! Chris sent photos and little videos playing with them with a report on how they were doing! He also cleaned up any mess and when I came home both cats were really good and well, the place was very clean and tidy. Very pleased with service, Chris is a friendly, trustworthy person who clearly loves his cats! Definitely will be using his service again 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛”

If you’re after solid pet care in southern Edinburgh, Waggy Wanderers is a decent choice. It was founded in 2021 by Laura Duggan, a pet sitter with a background in animal biology and conservation.

One of the best things about them is how versatile they are—they don’t just cater to dogs but also cats, hamsters, and other small pets. Their services are quite impressive too, especially the Wild Waggy Wanders, which gives energetic dogs a proper outdoor adventure with three-hour weekend hikes.

They even offer wedding chaperone services, making sure your pets are part of your big day while keeping them comfortable and happy.

The downsides? They’re on the pricier side, and since they mostly serve southern Edinburgh and Midlothian, availability might be a bit limited for those outside the area.

Pros

  • Available 24/7
  • Trained in canine first aid
  • Can care for a wide range of pets
  • Offers outdoor hikes for dogs
  • Offers wedding chaperone services

Cons

  • Above-average prices
  • Mainly serves southern Edinburgh and Midlothian

Waggy Wanderers Pet Care is simply amazing with our fur baby

“Laura at Waggy Wanderers Pet Care is simply amazing with our fur baby. From day one she’s worked with us to meet our dogs needs and has helped with his training hugely. Laura takes time to get to know the dogs and really does cater for individual needs. She’s also super flexible and always tries her best to meet our schedule. I couldn’t recommend Laura more!!

Added bonus that Laura shares updates/photos of the walks with us via WhatsApp and Facebook which is so lovely to see. Our dog absolutely loves his time with Laura!”

Laura pet sat my house rabbit for a week and was absolutely amazing

“Laura pet sat my house rabbit for a week and was absolutely amazing. It’s always scary leaving your pet with someone new for the first time (especially when they’re quite sensitive and not particularly fond of people like my boy is!) but Laura was very competent and kind, and really respected his individual needs. I could tell from the daily updates she sent that he was comfortable and being looked after very well, which was so reassuring whilst I was away. She was an absolute godsend and I wouldn’t hesitate to have her pet sit for me again in the future.”

A pet sitting service I found that covers all neighbourhoods in Edinburgh is Feline Fabulous. It was founded by Sheena McLeod, a pet sitter with over 40 years of experience caring for cats.

What I appreciate most is Sheena’s 24/7 availability, so you can book her anytime, even on short notice. And it’s cool that she’s not just there to feed your cat and head off either. She’ll water your plants and pick up your mail, which is a nice touch if you’re planning to be away for a while.

Her prices are pretty reasonable, too. She charges £14 a day to look after one or two cats, which is a bit cheaper than the usual rates.

The only catch is that Sheena runs everything herself, so during busier months, there’s always a possibility she might get booked up quickly.

Pros

  • Over 40 years of experience
  • Available 24/7
  • Covers all neighbourhoods in Edinburgh
  • Competitive rates
  • Provides extra home care services

Cons

  • Solo pet sitter
  • Advance booking needed for peak seasons

A lovely person who really cares about what she does

“Would absolutely recommend the lovely Sheena from Feline Fabulous Edinburgh. Sheena provided brilliant daily care for our little cat over the Christmas holidays. We got adorable daily updates on her well-being. From the updates we could see there were lots of cuddles and treats and we came back to a very happy well cared for kitty. Sheena called around before we left to meet us and our wee cat and she’s a lovely person who really cares about what she does. An excellent service. 🐾❤️”

Our cat seems really at ease with her

“Sheena has been a great find! She’s looked after our cat Begbie twice now and have already booked her again. Great regular updates and, most importantly, our cat seems really at ease with her.”

Oh My Dog! is one of my top recommendations for pet owners in North Edinburgh. They’ve been around since 2016 and can take care of your pet cats and dogs while you’re away.

A major plus is that they’re canine first-aid trained, so they’re prepared for emergencies. They can also administer medication if needed, though there’s a £2 additional charge for that.

Another thing I like is their pet taxi service in case you don’t have the time to take your furbaby to the vet or groomers. Furthermore, they offer a 10% discount for households with two or more pets, which is always a welcome bonus.

Sadly, they only cover Edinburgh’s northern neighbourhoods. Also, they can take a while to respond to enquiries, so a bit of patience is needed when booking.

Pros

  • Almost 10 years of experience
  • Canine first-aid trained
  • Can administer medication to your pets
  • Offers pet taxi service
  • 10% discount for 2 or more pets

Cons

  • Limited to Edinburgh’s northern neighbourhoods
  • May take 24 hours to respond to enquiries
  • £2 fee to administer medication

Our pup always has a blast!

“So glad we found Oh My Dog! Laura has been walking our dog for several years now—Laura takes such good care of her, and our pup always has a blast! Laura always goes above and beyond, tidying our pup up when she’s found a mucky puddle, taking good care so she doesn’t eat any of her food intolerances, and being flexible when she was ill recently. I would definitely recommend Oh My Dog to anyone.”

Always delivered a first class service

“My wife and I regularly used Laura for cat sitting our pet whilst away over the last 18 months. She always delivered a first class service and helped keep our cat company when we were away. Highly recommended if you need a cat sitter in the Edinburgh area”
