The 5 Best Photography Studios in Edinburgh with Smile-Worthy Value Packages
I’ve learned that finding the right photography studio in Edinburgh can make or break a photo shoot. Lighting, backdrop, great photographers, and vibe all matter more than you think.
Over the years, I’ve tried everything from sleek portrait studios to artsy warehouse setups for family photos and work headshots. There’s a surprising range of studios for every budget or mood, and here are some that made it to my go-to list for both style and substance.
How much does a photography studio charge in Edinburgh?
In Edinburgh, studio hire rates typically start at around £24–£40 per hour for smaller spaces. For more or full-day bookings (4 to 8 hours), expect roughly £90 for half a day and £165 or more for a full day in well-equipped studios.
1. Fotkaplus Photography

Address: 13 S Charlotte Street
Contact: +441312100145
Operating hours: Monday to Saturday, 10 AM–5 PM
I visited Fotkaplus Photography for a professional shoot and found their offering solid and efficient. The studio is well-located in New Town and easily accessible.
Their services cover a wide range: think corporate headshots to family portraits, newborn sessions, boudoir and makeover experiences.
There are versatile equipment and backdrop options, too. Pavel, the studio photographer, made the entire session feel comfortable, and the output was high-quality.
I consider this studio a one-stop shop for great pictures, with a team that includes professional photographers and retouchers for that full-service feel. I especially liked that there’s a dedicated team of stylists and hair/makeup professionals.
Scheduling online was pretty straightforward, with operations from Monday to Saturday. I did find the operating schedule somewhat limited compared to standard hours.
Another downside would be the studio being closed on Sundays, which is typically the day when larger family groups or when businesses choose to get their photographs taken.
The photo was perfect on the first try!
I was in immediate need of a passport photo, and this place could not have been better!! I called and was able to get an appointment within that same morning, and the entire process took less than 15 minutes. Plus, the photo was perfect on the first try! I’d recommend this place 1000x over!

2. Fern Photography

Address: 2a Broughton Place

Operating hours:
Monday, 10 AM–4 PM
Thursday to Friday, 10 AM–4 PM
Saturday to Sunday, 10 AM–5 PM
I tagged along for my best pal’s pre-wedding session, and observed how Fern Photography offered a polished storytelling style with both digital and analogue options (yes, including Super 8 film!). It’s become a favourite among vintage and retro photography fanatics.
The crew brought Sony, Fujifilm, and Canon kits to the table and mentioned they’re comfortable shooting everything from elopements to full-scale weddings across Scotland and beyond. Their speciality seems to be on colourfully candid urban-access shoots.
My bestie was in raptures over the prenuptial shoot, saying it never felt like an afterthought, given the online gallery delivery and the fine-art albums that came with it. She was also happy with the hourly and full-day rate options so they could work around their budget.
Pricing is on the premium end, though. Wedding photography packages start at around £1,499, with smaller shoots somewhat more affordable at about £200 per hour. The overall style is relaxed and friendly, with a core focus on weddings and elopements.
That said, their studio shooting is less emphasised, so they might not be ideal for sleek headshots or family portraits.
Matt was wonderful throughout the entire process
My husband and I recently booked with Fern Photography for a couple’s photoshoot. Matt was wonderful throughout the entire process, from booking to final gallery delivery. He was so gracious with us, even though we were late for our meeting time. We truly enjoyed the conversations, and he made us feel comfortable throughout the entire shoot. We are delighted with the final results! Thank you so much for capturing these memories. We will cherish them dearly.

The photos came back, and we love the way they came out
We had our wedding in September, and the entire experience was wonderful. Matt made us feel comfortable in front of the camera; he knew how to capture the best candid moments, paid attention to details with the posed photos and overall was very good at keeping the flow of the day going. He was super friendly. As a photographer, he blended into the crowd so we didn’t feel like there was a camera on us. The entire day felt natural, and it was great to have someone capture that. The photos came back, and we love the way they came out, from funny moments between friends and family to our own moments away from the crowd, which we cannot wait to print and put up on the wall! Thank you so much for capturing our special day!

3. A-Fotografy Photography Studio

Address: 151 London Road
Contact: +447850209999
Operating hours: Monday to Friday, 9 AM–6 PM
Being the unofficial organiser for my parents’ silver anniversary album, it was my job to book A-Fotografy after doing substantial research on the studio. The space is on London Road, which is easily reachable and feels comfortable for a multi-generation shoot.
Their offering clearly focuses on family, newborn, maternity, and milestone portraits. They were also happy to include my grandparents and pets without extra fuss!
In terms of facilities and equipment, the studio was spacious with a wide range of baby props and flexible backgrounds. Experience-wise, they’re quite strong, having photographed over a thousand babies and can do everything from formal portraits to relaxed candid shots.
Pricing for family/milestone sessions starts at around £299 for the Keepsake Collection (one-hour session plus 5 digital portraits), and can go up to £399 for the Lux Collection (2-hour session plus credit towards upgrades).
We opted for a mid-tier package and found the overall value reasonable for a studio that handled multiple generations and pets in one go.
The downside is that the pricing structure escalates when you add upgrades (wall art and albums), and the starting price doesn’t always cover all the print products you might want.
Armands was professional and charming!

Don’t look elsewhere, he’s number one
Armands simple does the best work, there is no easier way to rate or recommend him, he’s shot weddings, baby and family photographs for many of my friends, and there is no one else I’d have trusted with my Wedding. Don’t look elsewhere, he’s number one.

4. Blue Sky Photography

Address: 6a New Mart Road
Contact: +441314471100
Operating hours:
Monday to Friday, 9 AM–5 PM
Saturday, 10 AM–4 PM
My niece recently celebrated her third birthday, and as a doting aunt, of course, I had to tag along to Blue Sky Photography to witness her in all her posed cuteness (and to provide snacks).
The studio offers full family, kids, pets, and studio sessions and welcomes multi-generational shoots. We love that the studio has level access and free on-street parking, which made arrival with a toddler much less fraught.
Inside, we had a choice of three signature backdrop styles (white, black, and bright colour) for kids and family portraits. The team appeared well-versed in kids’ sessions; they were patient with my niece, allowing her to explore, then stepping in when she was ready to pose and smile for the camera.
Her parents appreciated the clear pricing, too. The Photography Experience package is £150 and includes the studio shoot, a discovery call, and a £50 credit towards a collection.
After the shoot, they were invited back for a viewing/design consultation to choose prints and wall art!
However, the session felt more premium-styled, which is great for family photos, but may not suit those wanting a casual, no-frills shoot or a very basic digital-only package.
They will definitely be photos we will cherish forever
Absolutely delighted with the photos. Ali made us feel so relaxed. We had no idea how it would pan out with a 3-year-old, but she had such a fun time. They will definitely be photos we will cherish forever. Amazing quality. Highly recommend.

5. Beautiful Bairns Photography

Address: 3 Gorgie Park Road
Contact: +447843912692
Operating hours:
Monday to Thursday, 9.30 AM–2 PM
Friday, 9.30–11.30 AM
Saturday to Sunday, 10 AM–4 PM
After a visit to my work colleague’s home and ooh-ing and ahh-ing at her newborn’s photo gallery, I decided to take a deep dive into Beautiful Bairnes, where she had her baby’s photoshoot done.
The studio centres strongly on newborns, maternity, and baby-first-year photography, so they’ve become a go-to for those recording early family moments.
It’s located on a quiet street with free private parking, and inside is a comfy sofa and home comforts, so baby and parents can relax.
There are extensive props for creative and unique photoshoots, with fabrics and styling options (hundreds of headbands, wraps, and baby-safe setups), which means the results are visually strong.
The owner has over a decade of experience in the field, with formal training in baby safety/posing, with the business emphasising baby-led sessions. Everything is placed around the infant’s comfort, which gives peace of mind to the parents.
Pricing starts with a booking fee of £99 for a newborn session, which goes towards a chosen collection. My colleague saw value in both the finished album and the wall-piece that came with the shoot, knowing she paid for a niche experience and comfort.
But because the focus is so strongly on newborn/maternity, the studio has fewer listed options or less competitive pricing for older-child, sibling-group, or business head-style shoots.
She was able to soothe and model her easily throughout
Dad review here. The whole session with Rachael was great. She was very welcoming and talked us through the whole process, asking what styles we’d like and specific requests. Our wee one was going through a fussy phase, but she was able to soothe and model her easily throughout. Pictures themselves were great, and delighted with the package we got. Hoping to return down the line for a cake smash when our wee one is old enough. Thanks again, Rachael!
