The 12 Best Pizza Places in Edinburgh That’ll Keep You Coming Back for More

As a street food enthusiast, I can fully attest that Edinburgh’s pizza scene is wild enough for me to stop pretending I have a favourite (it changes every week). This city does doughs brilliantly, from proper Neapolitan scorch marks to crunchy Roman slabs.

I’ve eaten my way through classic wood-fired spots, quirky modern slices, and the odd surprise tucked away in a back lane. Here’s my no-nonsense guide to the best pizza places in Edinburgh so that you can pick the perfect slice for your mood.

Civerinos

Sunday to Thursday, 11.30 AM–10 PM

Friday to Saturday, 11.30 AM–11 PM

Price: ££

I go to Civerinos when I want a slice that bites back (please don’t take that literally!). Those New Haven-style chewy crusts and coal-fire bases are no joke to the palate.

Their toppings game stays bold, from Italian sausage and burrata to rosemary-laced pies that somehow work. With several locations across Edinburgh, it’s dangerously easy to become a regular.

Pro-tip: Go early or order ahead; the coal-fired pies sell out fast during lunch and dinner hours.

Pizza Posto

Website

Address: 16 Nicolson Street

Hours: Daily, noon–10 PM

Contact: +441315579941

Price: ££

For proper Neapolitan pizza that doesn’t require a ticket to Naples, I head over to Pizza Posto. They serve them soft, puffy, and made from slow-rising multicereal dough that’s wonderful to the bite.

Their clay ovens give every pie that light char and effortless chew. It’s the kind of place where even a simple Margherita feels like a flex, though the menu swings from reliable classics to fun, creative toppings that don’t feel gimmicky.

Pro-tip: Pair your pizza with the house limoncello spritz for a citrusy kick that cuts through the rich crust.

Pizza Geeks

Website

Address: 19 Dalry Road

Hours:

Sunday to Thursday, noon–9 PM

Friday to Saturday, noon–10 PM

Contact: +441313478863

Price: ££

For great pizza with a side of nostalgia, my friends and I like going to Pizza Geeks (either at their Dalry Road or Leith spots). It feels and looks like a gamer den with ovens, with pies that land fast, hot, and packed with personality.

You’ll find creations like “The Braveheart” and “The Chorizard,” along with dangerously addictive, filled dough balls that disappear too quickly. They also run fun themed events, making it one of the most entertaining pizza stops in Edinburgh.

Pro-tip: Going with friends? Grab their group combo of pizza, sides, and dough balls for a better deal than ordering a la carte.

Pizzeria 1926

Website

Address: 85 Dalry Road

Hours: Daily, noon–10 PM

Contact: +441313375757

Price: ££

Being in Pizzeria 1926 feels like stepping into a Naples time warp. There are no gimmicks, mind, just proper Neapolitan dough fired the way it should be.

Their wood-fired oven gives every pie that soft centre and blistered spot you can spot from the door. They’re strict about tradition, too; they only use tomatoes from San Marzano and carefully sourced mozzarella!

Pro-tip: Don’t skip the fried starters here. The frittatina and arancini are real scene stealers before the pizza even hits your table.

Salerno Pizza

Hours:

Sunday to Friday, noon–9 PM

Saturday, 11.30 AM–9 PM

Salerno Pizza at St James Quarter is my family’s shopping break salvation. Their fresh Neapolitan pies with proper Italian ingredients and zero shortcuts make our weekend pantry stocking up a treat.

During our meal, the crust stays soft, the toppings stay honest, and the queue moves fast enough that we don’t stay hungry for too long. They’re also inclusive without making a fuss: there are vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options that don’t feel like afterthoughts.

Pro-tip: Keep an eye out for their monthly off-menu creations, and be brave enough to order Nutella pizza for dessert!

Matto Pizza

Sunday to Thursday, 11.30 AM–9.30 PM

Friday to Saturday, 11.30 AM–10 PM

Price: ££

When I get bored with traditional pizza toppings, I always find myself at Matto Pizza. Their seasonal menu changes often enough that I never order the same thing twice.

Every pie feels intentional, from the flavour pairings to the playful presentation. I especially love the creative combinations of ricotta with nduja, and the bold pumpkin puree with crispy sage!

Pro-tip: Give their social media and website accounts a follow to learn about exciting “special pizza” announcements.

Razzo Pizza Napoletana

Address: 59 Great Jct Street

Hours:

Sunday to Thursday, noon–9.30 PM

Friday to Saturday, noon–10 PM

Contact: +441315544748

Price: ££

Razzo Pizza Napoletana has become my reliable “no overthinking needed” pizza choice in Edinburgh. They serve traditional Neapolitan pies done properly and without drama.

The menu is tight, consistent, and always hits the spot. Plus, their Sicilian-style arancini deserve their own fan club for being crispy outside, molten inside, and big enough to count as a light meal.

Pro-tip: Pair your pizza with a San Pellegrino blood orange or a cold Peroni to cut through the richness perfectly.

Mamma’s American Pizza

Media from mammaspizzeria

Website

Address: 28 – 30 Grassmarket

Hours: Daily, noon–10 PM

Contact: +441312256464

Price: ££

I consider Mamma’s American Pizza a build-your-own-pizza haven. It offers fully customisable pies that let me stack toppings as if I’m playing culinary Jenga.

It’s loud, fun, and unapologetically American in all the right ways. With a massive topping list and solid gluten-free options, everyone at our table always gets exactly what they want.

Pro-tip: Split a half-and-half pizza with a friend or date. It’s the easiest way to test bold toppings without committing to a full pie.

Pizza Pilgrims

Monday to Wednesday, 11.30 AM–10.30 PM

There are days when I simply want slow-proved Neapolitan dough that’s soft, chewy, and borderline addictive. That’s when I head over to Pizza Pilgrims on Rose Street and take pleasure in the bold but balanced flavours, and the ambience that feels like a mini-holiday.

They also run pizza masterclasses if you want to learn the craft instead of just inhaling it!

Pro-tip: When you book a masterclass slot, you’ll get fresh pies straight from the oven, often with toppings not on the regular menu!

One Canon Pub & Pizza (Dough Dudes Pizza)

Website

Address: 1 Canonmills

Hours:

Monday to Thursday, noon–11 PM

Friday to Saturday, noon–1 AM

Sunday, noon–10 PM

Contact: +441315587080

Price: ££

One Canon Pub & Pizza has become my favourite start-of-the-week spot, thanks to its £5 Margheritas every Monday. It means I don’t have to cook, and I can enjoy a Dough Dudes pizza, all hot, hearty, and perfect with a pint, all to myself.

Their lineup of locally brewed beers makes the slices taste even better, especially on busy quiz nights. Add the occasional open mic, and you’ve got a place where the pizza and the atmosphere are equally worth the trip.

Pro-tip: Pub quiz nights are held every Tuesday at 7.30 PM, while open mic happens every Thursday starting at 8 PM.

3 Blind Mice

Website

Address: 19 Blackfriars Street

Hours:

Monday to Wednesday, 4–10 PM

Thursday to Sunday, noon–10 PM

Contact: +441312903333

Price: ££

3 Blind Mice is a place that convinced me “odd” can mean “brilliant”. Their fried meatballs sounded questionable at first until we tried them and realised how dangerously soft and addictive they were!

Even the pizzas surprised us in the best way, especially the aubergine with chicken and peppers combo! The overall vibe seals the deal for us, with good music, easy energy, and staff who actually seem happy to be there.

Pro-tip: Ask the staff for odd pairing recommendations that are not on the menu, and you might just be in for a pleasant surprise.

Mr Wood Fire

Media from mrwoodfireedinburgh

Facebook

Address: 59 Lauriston Place

Hours: Daily, noon–9.30 PM

Contact: +447599907879

Price: ££

Mr Wood Fire is my top choice for takeaway pizza in Edinburgh when I want something fast but genuinely crafted. The dough is spot on, chewy yet light, and full of flavour on its own.

Their seasonal Zuccata Picante with pumpkin cream, nduja, and sausage is the kind of combo that makes me rethink how takeaway pizza should be. I can actually taste the care in the ingredients, and it’s only slightly one-upped by the friendly joviality of the staff.

Pro-tip: Grab some garlic bread or smoky roasted veg on the side. Both travel well and match the richness of the pizza.
