The 5 Best Barbershops in Edinburgh for Cool Cuts

  • Cutting Precision: We evaluated how well each barber handles modern styling, scissor work, and clean fades. Every top shop must show consistent skill across different hair types and lengths.
  • Consultation Quality: We checked if barbers take time to understand your daily routine and head shape before cutting. Clear communication ensures you walk out with the style you actually wanted.
  • Atmosphere and Comfort: A great shop offers a welcoming vibe where you can relax during your haircut. We looked for comfortable seating, friendly staff, and extra perks like complimentary drinks.

Located in the vibrant heart of Leith, Connoisseurs Barbershop specializes in precision barbering, crisp skin fades, taper fades, and custom scissor cuts.

I like that every single service begins with a personal consultation and includes a luxury hot towel neck shave to suit your face shape and hair type. This way, you know your chosen cut suits you before they bring out the shears.

When I stopped by for a taper fade, the barber used their own line of water-based products and provided specific home styling tips.

Hands down best barber I have taken him to

I took my son to get his haircut with Michael. Michael was amazing. He took so much time and care with him and made sure he was happy with his hairstyle. The style was great. After the appointment my son set up a barbershop at home and cut his teddies hair. Safe to say he was clearly inspired haha. Hands down best barber I have taken him to. Will be returning.

Operating as a vibrant hub of self-employed barbers, Sink And Anchor Barber Shop brings a fresh urban feel to Fountainbridge.

Established in 2015, this shop lets each stylist offer personalized grooming in a laid-back environment complete with skate videos and complimentary drinks. The cool vibe helps clients relax while waiting.

I also appreciate that you can collect digital stamps through their loyalty program to earn 50% off future visits, while local students receive 10% off every haircut.

Moreover, convenient online booking lets you seamlessly pair haircuts with beard trims or deluxe shaves in one appointment.

However, overall service costs vary depending on which barber you choose, and poor consultation communication can occasionally lead to an unwanted shorter style.

  • Digital loyalty card gives 50% discount
  • Generous 10% student discount
  • Free drinks and skate videos while waiting

Cons

  • Prices vary based on barber experience

10/10 would definitely go back

went two days ago for a haircut, and I can confidently say it was the best barbershop I have ever been to. I was consulted on the best products to use for my hair, the way in which they cut my hair to best style it, and any questions I had; they answered them with great detail, and the staff were really friendly. 10/10 would definitely go back.

Founded in 2015 to raise local grooming standards, Rag & Bone Barbershop now runs four locations across Edinburgh. Every appointment starts with a consultation that factors in your hair texture, face shape, and lifestyle before cutting.

I dropped by their Jeffrey Street shop last month, and grabbing a cold Innis & Gunn beer during my trim made the session feel like a real treat. Not to mention, they let you bring your dog if you want to spend time with your furry friend.

Moreover, they offer transparent, tiered pricing based on staff experience, ranging from junior barbers to company directors.

On the downside, they enforce a strict cancellation policy that charges full price for short-notice changes, and cut quality can occasionally fall short of expectations.

  • Complimentary beers and soft drinks
  • Dog-friendly atmosphere in all shops
  • Transparent tiered pricing structures

Cons

  • Strict late cancellation and no-show fee policy

I couldn’t have been happier

I have been a client for almost 2 years now and have had my hair cut exclusively by Brian.

Every time I leave the barbershop looking sharp and with a smile on my face. Brian makes sure to listen to all of my concerns throughout the cut and he always does an amazing job.

Today, I switched up from my usual cut and went for a burst fade, and I couldn’t have been happier.

The atmosphere in the shop is super chill and relaxed, would 100% recommend this place and Brian too. 10/10

Excellent service and a brilliant cut

Very highly recommended barbershop that goes the extra mile and then some! Needed a cut for my wedding, but Sabrina had to rearrange my appointment due to illness yet still managed to get my a top quality haircut and shave with Balin. Excellent service and a brilliant cut and then a lovely gift afterwards shows that they really go above and beyond for their clients. If you want a professional haircut and good experience, you should go straight to Backstage Barbershop!
